1. Protect Yourself Against the Sun!

The Big Danger of UV Radiation!

Did you know that 90% of your wrinkles is caused by UV radiation?

A great way to prevent you getting those nasty wrinkles is avoiding too much direct sunlight. If you can't resist to go sunbathing use good protection!

-wear a cap or hat!

-Apply a high factor sunscreen!

Use a lot sunscreen on the most sensitive places and remind that you need to repeat this every 2-3 hours to stay protected! Don't save on your sunscreen please! Besides the fact that it slows down the wrinkling process, it also helps you prevent skin cancer!

Keep in mind that the sun is there even if it is cloudy outside!

A good sunscreen contains titanium oxide and/or zinc oxide! Using a natural sunscreen is always better than chemical ones. A natural sunscreen is a little bit more expensive, but so much better for your skin and always contain titanium and zinc oxide!

The younger you start using good protection against the sun the better chances you have to avoid wrinkling at a later age. Sunscreen is also the most perfect day/night cream, so you can save yourself a lot of money! You don't need expensive creams, use sunscreen instead and your skin will love you!

2. Be Aware of Your Facial Expressions! - Does Your Face Speak Along With You?

Controlling facial expression can be hard for some people
Controlling facial expression can be hard for some people

Most of our wrinkles appear in your face. Exactly at the spots where you use your facial muscles the most. A good exercise is to observe yourself in a mirror when you are talking. What facial muscles do you use while expressing yourself? Do you really need to do that?

Learn how to control your facial expressions!

If you find it difficult to get a grip on your facial expressions (like me) you might want to try Frownies, these are special patches you wear at night while sleeping for a few weeks and your wrinkles will reduce. This is a good and affordable alternative for expensive Bot-ox treatments. And if you don't want to spend money on Frownies you can use soft skin tape instead. Only wear inside your house!

3. Sleep On Your Back! - Another Free Way To Prevent Wrinkling!

Sleeping on your back prevents wrinkling!

Another known cause of wrinkling is sleeping on your side or belly.

If you are a side and/or belly sleeper your face is pushed against the pillow during the night. This causes the wrinkles. So the best way to avoid this way of wrinkling is sleeping on your back.

It might be a challenge for you if you are not used to this new sleeping position. But if you really want to fight the wrinkles or avoid worse wrinkling it's a must!

Did you know that sleeping on your back stimulates dreaming?

The old Egyptians already discovered this. So sleep on your back and have beautiful dreams and less wrinkling! Wow, that sounds cool doesn't it!

4. Fight Your Wrinkles With Antioxidants! - Live a Healthy Life Style!

I already wrote about UV radiation and wrinkling. UV radiation creates free radicals, and those free radicals damage healthy cells, eventually this process causes wrinkling of your skin. Now that sounds scary but you can prevent this damage by eating food that contains a lot of antioxidants.

Antioxidants are a collective term for the vitamins C and E, selenium and zinc, trace elements and bioactive substances such as flavonoids from fruits and vegetables. They help prevent oxidation damage to cells or tissues. For example: a peeled apple turns brown by oxygen, if you ad juice of a lemon to the apple the apple won't turn brown, that is because of the vitamine C in the lemon juice. Vitamine C is an important antioxidant!

Other foods that contain lots of antioxidants are: blueberries, plums, lemons, oranges, grapefruit, red and blue grapes, tomatoes, red pepper, chili pepper and cayenne pepper and last but not least: dark chocolate (yummy!).

Make sure you eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables, which is a great way to get enough antioxidants.

Antioxidants don't only prevent wrinkling, they keep your heart and blood vessels in good shape, prevent certain forms of cancer and prevent damage to your nerval system!

Food supplements that contain antioxidants don't have the same effect, so forget about that and eat healthy food and some dark chocolate everyday of course ;-)

Did you know that...

Drinking green tea is a great way to provide your body with antioxidants.

5. Eat Healthy (unsaturated) Fat

Can Fatty Food Be Healthy?

There are 2 types of fat: saturated and unsaturated.

Unsaturated fats contain omega 3 and are very healthy for you. Good examples of unsaturated fats are: linseed oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, seaweed oil and all oily fishes like salmon, eel and mackerel, avocado's and most nuts. Using a diet that contains unsaturated oils results in a hydrated skin, making wrinkles less visible.

Saturated fats are bad for you. Avoid the use of saturated oil as much as possible, it increases cholesterol and you and I know that this ain't good!

Saturated fats are mainly found in animal fat, (most) dairy products (especially in milk), frying oil and certain vegetable oils such as palm oil, palm kernel oil, coconut oil and cocoa butter.

6. Don't Touch Your Skin Too Much!

Touching your skin too much causes wrinkles!
Touching your skin too much causes wrinkles!

Touching your skin too much can cause damage to your skin cells. The more you damage skin cells the more wrinkles will spread on your skin.

It's really that simple. I can write a long story about it but won't bore you with dull facts. Simply don't touch your skin too much (but you can caress it of course, or even better: let that special person in your life caress it for you!)

7. Exfoliate Your Skin! - Skin Care Does Make a Difference!

Hydrating your skin helps you to avoid the getting wrinkles.

I already talked about Sunscreen as the most perfect day/night cream. Got it? Perfect! Also: use face masks, use one that is good for your type of skin. Take a face mask every week, not too bad isn't it ;-)

Moisturize your skin; Especially if your skin is dry! Moisturize after taking a shower, very important because water will make your skin dry, it sounds strange but it works that way!

Using a mild face scrub is also a perfect way to moisturize your face. Make sure you use a scrub for your face only, other scrubs are too aggressive and can cause damage.

8. The Danger Of Face Cleansers!

Use Water Instead Please...

Face cleansers damage the natural oil of your skin, which makes your skin more sensitive. A sensitive skin has more risk to get wrinkles. So don't use them.

Wash your face with water, alternate with cold and warm water, which is great for the blood circulation. A cheap and simple way to avoid wrinkles!

People who are optimistic and relaxed look younger! If you feel good about yourself your body will reward you with health and beauty, this is proven! And it's for free!

Later on I will write more lenses about how to achieve happiness and balance in your life.
